Which narratives are worth being told and preserved?
This series of paintings records the unusual layering of mechanical and electrical services of the City Assembly House prior to restoration works.
Metal light switches sit beside their contemporary plastic counterpart. Strip lighting is juxtaposed by the stuccoed surround of its predecessor and a bath and its pipes offer a narrative directly linked to the building’s function at a specific time.
The traces and layerings of past use, removed during restoration works, offer an alternative narrative to the buildings history.
